The announcement of further bank branch closures by RBS and Lloyds is likely to accentuate problems for older people and their carers. 2017 is now a record year for branch closures and this comes at a time when there are also fears that thousands of ATMs will disappear or start charging.
Hilary Cooper, one of our founding directors, has studied the effect of branch closures on older people, who often rely on face to face contact for banking and are reluctant or fearful of migrating over to virtual banking. This impact also extends to carers, who may as a result be drawn into a more intrusive support role. Read Hilary's blog for the Oxford Institute of Population Ageing here
